Cavalry Club Archive

It seems like every web-site has one of these pages. It's where you can put things that might have been useful at one time, and may, or may not, be useful again, but someone is afraid to get rid of it, so they send it to the "Archive". Which solves the problem of having to make a decision about whether to keep it or not. It's sort of like putting stuff in your attic or barn. Once in the "Archive" the information is seldom used and is often hard to find, because of something that Sheldon, our geek/nerd called "keywords". So why do we need an archive page like this? Well that was the dilemma facing the "web-site committee" at the Club. That's right, we now have a "committee" to deal with these "issues". Some of the boys on the committee have started talking like that, using words like "issues" and "down-side risk" when "addressing" committee "agendas". I don't know if it's harmful to use those kinds of words, but it sure is odd talk around the Club.
How this committee came to be is a story all on it's own, but a bit too long to tell you about here. All we'll say on that subject right now is that it had something to do with Old Uncle Alphonse's "vast knowledge of the internet", which really amounts to almost nothing. Anyway, he's not on the committee. That fell on Captain Jim (chairman, as usual), Lester, StanSki, Pat, Louie, Elmer, Rudy, Joe Earl, Elvan and TonyVeg. That may seem like a big committee, and it does pretty much include all the weekend regulars, except for Old Uncle Alphonse, of course, but that was the point anyway, to keep old Alphonse from contaminating the proceedings. The committee meeting was held at the big table inside the Club and Alphonse, not being a committee member, had to stay out on the porch during the meeting, which gives the boys at the table some great fun pretending to ignore old Alphonse peering in through the window, trying to get a few words into the "committee record".
As usual the committee meeting didn't get rolling until long after supper. So most of the boys were well into the Old Fashioned crock by then. Needless to say not much was decided, except all agreed that the Club didn't have much of anything worth archiving. So TonyVeg ( Why "Veg", his family has been in the wholesale produce and restaurant supply business since the 1930s) suggested that we just put in a bunch of horse and cavalry articles and other stuff that some of the boys have written in the past. But it had to be stuff that was actually published somewhere besides on the old outhouse wall, like in a magazine or newspaper. Everyone thought that it was a pretty good idea so we turned it over to Sheldon, our geek, who will put everything into a "Pdf" file, which he told us makes the articles easy to "download".
That pretty well finished that "issue" before the committee, except that StanSki, who's had to stay out on the porch from time to time himself, due to his excess Polish gas problem, felt sorry for Old Uncle Alphonse, so we made him an "ex-officio" committee member. Alphonse liked that title even if he doesn't know what it means. There's no end to the power of a well organized committee.
